The Panel attends the 10th Irish Funds UK Symposium

Success Stories in Distribution - Jayne Rogers, Richard Kelly, Nick Emmins, Lindsay Gold
On a cold Thursday morning we boarded a plane and headed to London, and the 10th Irish Funds UK Symposium.

Our colleagues Anne Keys (Managing Partner) and Liam Murphy (Director, Funds & Investment Management) made a flying visit to this one annual staple in the Funds calendar on Thursday, November 30th.

Celebrating its 10th year, the Irish Funds UK Symposium presented an impressive list of speakers and saw over 600 people in attendance over the course of the day. The day proceedings were opened by Colm McDonagh (Chair of Irish Funds, CEO of Insight Investment Management Europe) and the Ambassador of Ireland to the United Kingdom, H.E. Martin Fraser.

Highlights included the ELTIF panel featuring Jocelyn Pidoux (iCapital Network), David Allen (Stepstone Group), Venkata Kota (S64 Capital), Gavin Byrnes (UBS), and James O’Sullivan (Central Bank of Ireland) which was moderated by Aaron Mulcahy (Maples Group). They looked at opportunities and discussed how organisations can prepare for the arrival of ELTIF in Ireland and how they can manage their expectations ahead, during, and after its implementation.

Derville Rowland (Deputy Governor at the Central Bank of Ireland) held the first keynote address of the day, speaking of how CBI is an intelligence-based organisation and that data is a global priority in the financial services industry. How do we deal with change, and what can we do about it?

After the keynote, Derville joined the panel discussion on ‘Updates on Regulations’ together with Camille Blackburn (FCA) and Antonio Barattelli (ESMA). Moderator was Iain Ferguson (McCann Fitzgerald). The conversation focused on ILP, Private Investments, AI, ETF and Sustainable Finance.

Baroness Floella Benjamin, DBE held the second keynote of the day and  left the audience inspired and impassioned with her words “Stand up for what you believe in!”.

Moderator Barry Scannell (William Fry) led the panel discussion on ‘Practical Applications of Artificial Intelligence in the Funds Industry’, a topic central to all. The panel with Maria Knight (Goldman Sachs), Shany Venon (BNP Paribas) and Jack White (Citi) discussed trends and what practical uses and applications AI can have, and of course Chat GPT.

Other panel discussions during the day dealt with topics such as ETFs, ILP, Private Credit, Debt Strategy, ESG, Sustainable Investments and Cross Border Fund Flows. All hugely insightful.

Before leaving our colleagues attended the final panel discussion of the day ‘Success Stories in Distribution’ with Jayne Rogers (Rathbones Plc), Richard Kelly (LGIM), Nick Emmins (iNED Director) and Lindsay Gold (Baillie Gifford Europe) and moderated by Dominik Kremer (Haven Green).

Followed by James Pomeroy’s (Global Economist, HSBC) keynote address on the key themes shaping the future of the economy.

Many thanks to Pat Lardner (CEO, Irish Funds) and David Shirley (Business Development & Membership, Irish Funds), and all of the Irish Funds team for another great event.

Representing The Panel at the event were Anne Keys and Liam Murphy.
