Our client is a hugely successful financial services organisation with an established legal and regulatory team.
Due to continued growth across business lines they are seeking a highly motivated Regulatory Counsel to join the Legal and Regulatory team.
This role reports directly to the General Counsel and sits with the wider legal team.
• Ideal candidates will have 3-6 years pqe with experience gained advising across financial regulatory matters relating to regulated and unregulated entities.
• You will be the key contact for the regulators and will have responsibility for keeping up to date on key regulatory changes and industry trends.
• Part of the role will involve managing and further developing compliance and supervisory frameworks including assistance in drafting risk assessment papers and policies and procedures.
• In addition, you will prepare authorisation applications with the CBI, prepare regulations due diligence in relation to any acquisitions, instruct external counsel and deliver reg training where required.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide expert legal and regulatory advice on all aspects of the Company's business activities
• Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory inquiries from the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) and other relevant authorities.
• Monitor and analyze regulatory developments, including legislative changes and industry guidance, and proactively identify and assess potential impacts on the Company.
• Develop and maintain robust compliance frameworks, including drafting and reviewing risk assessments, policies, and procedures.
• Assist in the preparation and submission of regulatory applications, such as authorizations and notifications.
• Conduct regulatory due diligence on proposed acquisitions and other strategic initiatives.
• Instruct and manage external counsel as required.
Essential Criteria:
• Qualified Solicitor or Barrister eligible to practice in Ireland.
• Minimum 4 years' PQE in Irish and UK financial services regulatory matters.
• Prior experience in a top-tier law firm or a regulated financial services firm highly desirable.
• In-depth knowledge of AML/CTF, Fitness & Probity, Outsourcing, and Consumer Protection regulations.
• Strong understanding of Irish and UK domestic and European financial services legislation.
Desirable Criteria:
• Experience managing or mentoring junior legal professionals.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic, and matrixed environment.
• Proven ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and demonstrate initiative.
• Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong academic background and exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in presenting to peers, senior management, and external partners.
• Proven ability to provide clear, practical, and commercially sound legal advice.
• Familiarity with legal tech tools and solutions.
