ULI Sustainability and ESG Breakfast

On Friday 16th of February we were delighted to attend the ULI (Urban Land Institute) Ireland's Sustainability & ESG Breakfast meeting.

The Sustainability and ESG breakfast event last week was a lively affair, with both an individual talk by Green MP Ciarán Cuffe and an expert panel featuring Neil Menzies (Hibernia Real Estate Group), Shane Caldwell (IPUT), Rachel McGinley (CBRE Ireland) and Marta Testagrossa (FTI Consulting). The event was hosted by Marie Hunt (Head of Research, IPUT, and Executive Committee Chair ULI Ireland).

Representing The Panel was Darina Heavey, Senior Consultant, ESG & Sustainability.

After the opening talk, Ciarán Cuffe held a presentation on the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) and how Ireland can adopt a European approach to the growing need for climate action. More specifically he discussed the key climate challenges Ireland face and the upcoming initiatives to be encountered in 2024:

  • European Green Deal: Carbon Neutrality by 2050.
  • #FitFor55: 55% Greenhouse Gas reduction 1990-2030.
  • RepowerEU: renewables, efficiency, and alternate supplies.

He discussed the importance of “green” buildings and updates to the EPBD (Energy Performance of Building Directive).

The EU Directive, Energy Performance of Building Directive (EPBD) is aiming to achieve minimum Energy Performance Standards across Europe. Ultimate goal Zero emission buildings.

It was great to hear that funding of €327bn per annum has been made available from the EU to support the retrofit and renovation of properties and that the “One Stop Shop” which provides impartial advice for all communities will be available in every region soon.
